About Gateway 6th Grade Center

Gateway 6th Grade Center opened its doors to its first class of Grizzlies in August 2018. Gateway is one of two 6th grade centers in the district, along with Eastgate. The school serves approximately 910 students in the northern areas of the district. Gateway offers a unique chance for 6th grade students to ease into the new patterns, schedules, and rigor that come at the secondary level. Creating an environment just for 6th graders is an opportunity to help students be more successful academically, emotionally and socially. Following their 6th grade year, students are promoted on to Antioch Middle School in the Oak Park High School feeder pattern or New Mark Middle School in the Staley High School feeder pattern.

All Gateway students benefit from a team-teaching approach and access to iPads through the district's 1:1 technology initiative. In addition, students participate in a variety of encore classes including art, music, speech and theater, physical education and modern language. A wide offering of before and after school activities are also provided to extend students' learning and offer a chance to explore new interests.
